Buying into community
0I had a discussion with a community member and fellow board member and the question of the day is how do you get renters to buy into community? What kind of things can be done? Many of our communities are filled with renters and sometimes the mobility rate is high. How do you get a demographic like that to invest into building healthy communities? Building community is one of the way that we can turn some of the violence around. What’s your opinion ? Let us know your thoughts.

0Today’s positive youth profile was submitted by Darice Williams
My granddaughter Lesha Johnson attends Roberto Clemente high school. She’s a freshman and has been a honor roll student for all quarters. In addition she is Cheerleader, Pom Pom dancer & involved in JROTC. She marched in the Memorial day parade in Downtown Chicago. I love her to pieces! During her sophomore year she plans to try out for the track team. In addition, Lesha is involved in After School Matters which gives high school students an opportunity to earn money while learning a skill. U Can Turn It Around commends for all of the positive works that Lesha is involved in!
The mind is where the battle begins!
0Whenever change is introduced it is often resisted. Typically there is an uprising of some sort when change is ushered in. The way in which change is introduced can determine if it is successful or if it fails. Self change can be a challenging adventure. Habits over time gain power and grow roots in the subconscious of our mind and we begin to practice the habits without even thinking about it. Do you know of anyone that has tried to quit smoking? In the beginning when they have stopped smoking the motions of putting their fingers to their mouths my still exist. Over time bad habits can be changed. Turning your life around starts in the mind once that decision is made it’s the beginning of the battle. You have to stay on the course if you want to be successful but, U CAN TURN IT AROUND!
